- גָּרַד(b. h.; v. גרר) 1) to scratch, scrape, comb. Sabb.VIII, 6 (81a) לִגְרֹוד Ar. a. ed. Y.; a. fr. (Editions a. Mss. mostly גָּרַר q. v.Part. pass. גָּרוּד stripped, v. גַּרְדּוּם. 2) (denom. of גֶּרֶד 2) to cut the web with its fringes off the loom. Yoma 72b (expl. בגדי השרד Ex. 35:19) בגדים שגֹּורְדִין אותן כברייתנ מכליהןוכ׳ webs which they cut off the looms in their needed shape (so as to require no tailoring), leaving a small portion of the unwoven threads.
